The region’s leading defence industry products include command and communication systems, dual-use drones, vehicles, vessels, and products related to protection and soldier equipment. An important area of defence industry activity is the maintenance of equipment used by the Finnish Defence Forces.
The region has a history of nearly a century in the defence industry. For strategic and operational reasons, the Tampere urban region is home to significant Finnish Defence Forces units and other public sector actors, research and education organisations and some of the largest companies in the sector, including strategic partners of the Finnish Defence Forces.
